Five Steps for Treating Problem-Prone Skin with Environ Skin Care

How to define problematic skin:

Blemishes, pimples, spots, acne or problem-prone skin, start in the area surrounding the hairs that grow from the skin. This is known as the pilosebaceous follicle. These follicles can become plugged with dead skin cells and sebum, eventually leading to congestion and breakouts. Areas where you can commonly find breakouts are the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders, however, pimples can form in other areas all over the body.

How Does Environ Skin Care Treat Problem-Prone Skin - The Importance of Vitamin A:

Vitamin A is the key to skin cell normalisation. This powerhouse molecule is essential for the functioning of healthy skin cells, including keratinocytes, melanocytes, Langerhans and fibroblasts (all different types of skin cells). Environ Skin Care harnesses the power of Vitamin A in progressive dosages and different forms to help correct the skin's functioning and health to help prevent the progression of blackheads to inflamed spots.

Treating Problematic Skin with Environ Skin Care in Five Steps

1.   Reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands

This is best done following the Envion Step-Up System to gradually integrate increasing vitamin A levels into your client's skin. In some clients, only a very low dose of vitamin A is required to reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands and produce less sebum. Other clients may need to progress to higher doses of vitamin A before reducing the sebaceous glands' action. Always remember to start low and go slow when introducing vitamin A to your client's skin.

 2.   Reduce the possibility of sebaceous gland obstruction

Vitamin A helps to increase cell turnover whilst correcting skin functionality. Excess keratinisation (when skin cells don't shed normally) of the hair follicle occurs when there is an increase in skin cell production and decreased desquamation of keratinocytes (skin cell turnover) lining the hair follicle.

3.   Dissolve the keratin plugs

Clients should follow the Environ cleansing routine of pre-cleanse, cleanse and tone to ensure all makeup and excess sebum have been cleansed from the skin. Clients should try not to use harsh soaps when cleansing their skin.

  1. Environ Skin EssentiA Pre-Cleansing Oil to dissolve, liquefy and deep clean the skin without disrupting the skin's acid mantle.
  2. Environ Cleanser of choice, e.g. Focus Care Clarity+ Sebu-Wash Gel Cleanser or Skin EssentiA Mild Cleansing Lotion.
  3. Environ Toner of choice, e.g. Focus Care Clarity+ Sebu-Tone Clarifier or Skin EssentiA Botanical Infused Moisturising Toner.

4.   Reduce the acid mantle

Alpha Hydroxy Acids help when treating problem-prone skin as they help reduce the skin's acid mantle. AHAs work to increase the skin's acidity and reduce the build-up of the horny layer clogging the ducts of the sebaceous glands. It is important to note that prolonged use of AHAs without the support of vitamin A can cause dry skin problems. Environ recommends using Environ Body EssentiA A, C & E Body Oil and Derma-Lac Lotion to help reduce the acid mantle.

5.   Treat the infection

Cool peel treatments are very beneficial for treating acne infections. Cool Peels work to sterilise spots almost immediately. The pH of the 2.5% Lactic Acid Peel helps to kill pathogens on the skin whilst reducing inflammation and heat from the skin. Using peels lightly and regularly is an effective treatment option for targeting problematic skin.

Environ Skin Care harnesses the power of science in each innovative formulation to help make a real difference in people's lives. When treating problem-prone skin, Environ focuses on the power of vitamin A and AHAs to help promote healthy skin and enhance the skin's natural functions.
